Tropical Depression 13 forms in south-central Atlantic. Will become Tropical Storm “Lee” in a matter of hours, and will likely strengthen into a Major Hurricane over the next few days. However, due to strong Wind Shear off the east coast of the U.S., it appears at this time that “Lee” will remain out in the Atlantic and not be a threat to U.S. east coasts states. NHC upgrades Tropical Depression 13 to Tropical Storm “Lee,” with sustained winds of 45 mph. Potential for Lee to become a very powerful major hurricane by Friday afternoon. Hurricane Lee moving due north now at 9 mph. Still a Category 2 hurricane.
