Some satellite views of Hurricane Fiona, now a Category 2 Hurricane with sustained winds of 105 mph. Fiona is expected to become a Category 3 (Major Hurricane) by sometime Tuesday morning, with sustained winds in excess of 110 mph. Tropical Wave well east of the Windward Islands in the southern Atlantic now given a 50% chance of further development by NHC. “Spaghetti Models” show increasing chances of this system reaching into the Caribbean Sea within 5 to 7 days… after that, the forecasts are quite murky at this time. NHC’s latest update (5pm EDT) gives a Tropical Wave east of the Windward Islands an 80% chance of further development over the next 5 days. Now one to watch very closely. Hurricane Fiona is now a Category 3 hurricane, the first Major Hurricane in the Atlantic this hurricane season. Invest 98-L, currently a Tropical Wave 200 miles east of the southern Windward Islands, is forecast by the NHC to move into the Caribbean Sea within next 3 to 5 days.
