Good morning, and Happy New Year 2025 to everyone!

I wanted to share the latest Model data with you for a possible freezing rain event that could impact many of your Cooperatives and possibly some of your G&Ts. These Models are among many used by Pivotal Weather and their forecasters.

Below are graphics from 3 Models - the GFS, the Euro or ECMWF, and the NWS National Blend of Models or NBM. All 3 are showing this event beginning sometime Saturday afternoon in parts of KS, OK or MO, and continuing through the late afternoon and evening hours of Monday, January 6, with ice possible for parts of OK, KS, MO, AR, IL, IN, KY, TN, MS, AL, GA, SC, NC, VA, WV and OH. Accretion amounts in these 3 Models vary from less than 1/4” up to possibly 1” in some areas.

I will have more confidence in forecasts that are made inside of 3 days, or 72-hours out, once we draw closer to this potential event. Our SPIA Index Ice Impact Forecasts begin at 72-hrs out.
