FYI… Helene is now a Category 3 Major Hurricane with max sustained winds of 110 mph. Its forward speed has also increased to 16 mph. Movement is North-Northeast. Helene is expected to make landfall between Apalachicola and Cedar Key sometime after 10 p.m. tonight.

Storm surge in Big Bend area still predicted to be in the 15’ to 20’ range by forecasters at the NHC. Catastrophic and “Unsurvivable” storm surge, as described by the NHC. Helene will be one of the most powerful (and largest wind field) hurricanes to wreak havoc in the Gulf of Mexico in the last 3 or 4 decades, according to forecasters at NHC.
