Ian is once again a hurricane. After exiting northeast Florida and re-emerging in the warm coastal waters of the Atlantic, Ian has strengthened into a Category 1 hurricane with max sustained wind speeds of 75 mph. It is moving North-Northeast at 10 mph.
A Hurricane Warning has been issued for the entire South Carolina coastline, as well as parts of the southeastern North Carolina coast. Tropical Storm Warnings have been issued for the eastern and northeastern Florida coasts, the southeastern Georgia coast, and much of the eastern North Carolina coastline.
Ian is forecast to make another U.S. landfall just north of Mt. Pleasant, SC by early Friday afternoon. While most models predict this additional landfall to have sustained wind speeds just above a Category 1, it IS possible that Ian could strengthen into a Category 2 hurricane, with winds approaching 90 to 100 mph as it hits the south-central SC coast.
Storm surge could be in the 4’ to 7’ range along much of the SC coastline, and from 1’ to 4’ across the northeast Florida coast to the northeastern North Carolina coast.
Rainfall amounts could range from 1” up to 10” in parts GA, SC, NC, TN, KY, VA, WV, MD, DE, NJ & PA.
