Heat Wave begins to take over across southern half of CONUS. Both Temperatures and Wet Bulb Globe Temperatures (a combination of forecast temps, relative humidity, pressure, solar radiation, and time spent in direct sun exposure) will become increasingly higher over the next 10 days to 2 weeks. Load forecasts will grow, especially during late afternoon, evening, and early overnight hours…

FYI… Forecast Temperatures shown are at 7pm CDT (00:00 UTC) for Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Max temps reach up to 121.9 degrees F in parts CA, NV & AZ, and into the 105 to 110 degrees F range in central and southern TX.
Wet Bulb Globe Temperatures (WBGT) have been used for decades by the United State Marine Corps to measure heat stress on the human body, and this form of measurement is considered much more accurate than Heat Index Temperatures, which are measured in the shade. WBGT temperatures take into account actual forecast temperatures, humidity, pressure, and solar radiation. While WBGT temps in the 75 to 80 degree range are considered to be “Low Risk” to those who work outdoors in direct sunlight, WBGT temps in the 88 to 90 degree range are considered to be “High Risk,” and above 90 degrees to be “Extreme Risk” to the human body, depending on length of exposure. For outdoor workers - such as line personnel, WBGT temperature forecasts are ones to watch, and hydration becomes increasingly necessary, as does periodic time spent in shade or in an air conditioned space.
Note the increasing WBGT temperatures in various afternoon and evening time periods over the next 2 days across the Southeast, South Central, and Southwest Regions…
