SPC Severe Thunderstorm Risk Outlook, Days 1 through 3, to 6am Wednesday, 4/13. Sidney Sperry 10 Apr 2022 16:03 UTC
FYI… significant hail is possible late Monday night through early Tuesday morning (Day 2) as this storm system develops further. Areas of concern for high winds, large hail and the possibility of some tornadoes appears to be across parts of OK, TX, AR, LA, MO, IL, KY, TN & MS. Day 3 (Tuesday morning thru Wednesday morning) forecast shows ELEVATED RISK for Severe Thunderstorms in parts IA, NE, KS, MO, OK & TX. Much of this severe storm development will hinge on whether or not the ‘cap’ (a warm layer of air between 2,000 and 5,000 feet in the upper atmosphere that acts as a stabilizer and severe storm development deterrent) gets broken by unstable air and high levels of energy created by surface temperatures that could reach into the 90s in parts of TX and OK. The higher the surface temperatures on Monday and Tuesday, the higher the likelihood that the ‘cap’ could be broken on Wednesday, and severe storms could become much more significant and impactful, with large hail and some large tornadoes possible. - Sid Sperry
