Snow and Freezing Rain to Impact Parts of U.S. Over Next 12 to 72-hours… Sidney Sperry 05 Jan 2022 09:27 UTC
All,

While the Northwest continues to be inundated with very heavy snow - and in some areas of southern WA and northern OR, freezing rain up to 3/4” in ice accumulation - several other areas of the U.S. are also forecast to receive lots of snow.

As shown below, areas of eastern MN, northern WI, the MI Upper Peninsula, northern and western MI are forecast to receive between 2” to 12”+ of new snowfall over the next 72-hours. And, an area encompassing parts of northern TN, most all of KY and WV, western and northern VA, and much of New England (including PA, MD, DE, NJ, NY, CT, RI, VT, NH and ME) will be impacted beginning Thursday and extending into the weekend.

Meanwhile, there is more snow in store for far southeastern WY, the NE Panhandle, southern and southwestern NE, and northern KS and parts of central & northern MO.

Areas of northern and northeastern TN, eastern KY, western VA and southern and eastern WV could see snowfall amounts ranging from 2” to 8”+, with the larger amounts being in higher elevation areas.

Bands of Freezing Rain are forecast from areas of southern WA to northern OR, where ice accumulation amounts are forecast to reach nearly 3/4” in some areas over the next 12 to 24 hours. The SPIA Index Ice Impact Forecast is currently at Levels 1 through 3 for parts of southwestern WA and northwestern OR.

Across areas of eastern AR, northern MS and AL, far northwestern GA, and the southwestern quarter of TN, light freezing rain is also forecast, with amounts being less than 0.05” at this time. However, parts of southeastern NY, southern and eastern NH, and northern ME could see more than 1/10” ice accumulation over the next 72-hours.
