FYI… latest NHC updates on Tropical disturbances in the eastern Atlantic, and latest updates on Hurricane Sam. Sam is now a Category 3 hurricane, with sustained winds of 120 mph. It’s movement is northwest at 9 mph. Forecasters indicate Sam’s track will now take it well to the northeast of the Leeward Islands, and to the east of Bermuda. No significant impacts are expected on those islands at this time. However, the National Hurricane Center (NHC) has issued a significant swells advisory for east coast states and Atlantic Canada, focusing on the possibility of life-threatening surf & rip currents.
Note that there are two additional disturbances developing off the western African coast. Both are initially tracking somewhat to the south of Hurricane Sam. NHC gives both of these tropical disturbances an 80% chance of further development over 5 days.
