FYI… Hurricane “Sam” is still intensifying east of the Leeward Islands tonight, with sustained winds now up to 85 mph. It is projected to reach Major Hurricane status (sustained winds =/> 110 mph) by Saturday afternoon. Most models have “Sam” developing into either a high-end Category 3 or low-end Category 4 hurricane over the next 5 days. While the current track is westward, “Sam” is expected to begin turning more to the north by Saturday night. There is still the possibility that the Leeward Islands could receive some wind and rainfall impacts by Wednesday of next week. Again, we will keep an eye on this storm as it continues to develop and intensify. - Sid Sperry
