Two storms to keep an eye on over the next 5 to 10 days… Sidney Sperry 03 Sep 2021 13:28 UTC
Good Friday morning to all. Continue to keep the Mutual Aid crews from multiple states and from multiple utilities in your thoughts and prayers, please.

There are two separate storm systems to keep an eye on over the next 5 to 10 days. The first two graphics below are related to Invest 91L, a developing disturbance that is currently located over the Gulf of Honduras and portions of Central America, and southeast of the Yucatán Peninsula. Matt Lanza, a meteorologist with Space City Weather in Houston (sponsored by Reliant Energy) provides the commentary in the first graphic related to Invest 91L. To summarize: this disturbance does have a 30% chance of further development, and models indicate that it could move northwest across the Yucatán Peninsula and into the southern Gulf of Mexico by the middle of next week. The biggest concern at this time is the significant amounts of moisture that this disturbance could bring to the southern Gulf states of TX, LA, MS and AL, should it move northward. Again, something to keep an eye on next week.

The second set of two graphics shows the further development and forecast track predictions of Hurricane “Larry” in the Atlantic. “Larry” is expected to further strengthen into a major hurricane (sustained winds =/> 110 mph) over the next couple of days. The good news, however, is that NHC forecasters are now predicting that Larry’s track will be turning more to the north, potentially away from Bermuda, and possibly becoming less of a threat to the east coast and northeastern coastal states. That would be good.

Enjoy your Labor Day Weekend, and again, keep those who are “laboring” in trying to restore electric service in the South and in the Northeast in the wake of “Ida” in your thoughts and prayers.

More next week… - Sid Sperry
