Good morning all. And, if you have the love of God in you, please pray for the people in Louisiana and Mississippi - they are going to need our prayers over the next several days.

Hurricane Ida has now entered the southeastern Gulf of Mexico and is forecast to strengthen rapidly into a major hurricane, with sustained winds reaching between 110 and possibly up to 140 mph before landfall. At landfall in south-central or southeastern Louisiana, surface winds are projected to be in the 120 to 130 mph range, at or near Category 4 on the Saffir-Simpson Scale.

As of 7:00am this morning, Ida’s winds were 85 mph and it’s forward movement was northwest at 16 mph. It is expected to increase in intensity and in forward speed until it gets close to landfall, then slow slightly, which is not necessarily a good thing, because this could increase storm surge levels along the LA and MS and possibly AL coastlines.

Please note that Tropical Storm Force Winds (=/> 39 mph) and 58 mph winds are currently forecast to reach far inland with this storm (see graphics below). Along with these strong sustained and gusty winds will be HEAVY RAINFALL, with some coastal areas of LA projected to receive between 15” and 20” of rain. Also note that 4” up to 10” of rainfall is forecast across large areas of MS, reaching into TN. This should be a concern to those west of Nashville, TN, (Waverly, TN) who are still trying to recover from a catastrophic 17.26” rainfall and devastating flooding event just a few days ago.

Landfall for Ida is still expected to occur late Sunday night or during the early morning hours on Monday, with the forecast track still just east of Morgan City and just west of Baton Rouge. Please know that severe impacts from Ida can be expected outside of the forecast “cone,” and that the centerline track could still shift slightly before landfall.
