Tropical Storm Elsa Upgraded by NHC to Hurricane Elsa this morning… Sidney Sperry 02 Jul 2021 15:54 UTC
FYI…

Elsa has now been upgraded by the NHC to a hurricane, with max sustained winds of 75 mph as in neared Barbados. Hurricane Elsa will likely impact Hispaniola, Haiti, parts of the Dominican Republic, Jamaica and Cuba this weekend, as a Category 1 or Category 2 Hurricane. It’s interactions as it moves over Cuba will most likely influence both its strength, and its future track as it nears south Florida.

As highlighted, interests in Florida, southeastern Georgia, and the South Carolina coast should begin preparations for at least Tropical Storm Force Winds, and possibly Category 1 Hurricane Winds exceeding 74 mph. Parts of south Florida could begin seeing some impacts from Elsa as early as Sunday evening, July 4th. Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina are states that could be directly impacted by Elsa Monday through Thursday of next week, with heavy rainfall, some storm surge, 45 to 65 mph winds, and localized flooding all in the realm of possibility this next week. - Sid Sperry
