FYI... latest update from the NHC. As of 4pm EDT, Hurricane Delta has max sustained winds of 115 mph, up about 15 mph over this morning’s wind speeds, showing some strengthening. Delta has slowed somewhat as it begins to make its ‘right turn’ and moves more to the north rather than the northwest. It’s speed is about 12 mph.
Of note is the widening Tropical Storm Force Wind Field (surface winds greater than or equal to 39 mph) as Delta approaches landfall along the south-western to south-central Louisiana coast. This area is projected to extend from near Beaumont, TX, to Morgan City, LA. Expected sustained winds at landfall will likely be in the 95 to 120 mph range. Peak storm surge is expected to be 4’ up to 11’ in the Calcasieu Lake to Vermillion Bay area. From 4” to 10” of total rainfall is being forecast over the next 72-hours, possibly causing life-threatening flooding and flash flooding. - Sid Sperry, OAEC
