All,
Potential Tropical Cyclone #26 has formed in the Central Caribbean Sea, and will likely develop into a Tropical Storm by later tonight or early Monday morning. NHC forecasters are predicting that this storm will strengthen into a hurricane over the next 5 days. If so, this storm would be named “Delta” from the Greek Alphabet.
Here are the latest NHC Forecast graphics and discussions. The track of Potential Cyclone #26 has yet to be clearly defined, but a Hurricane Watch has already been issued for parts of western Cuba. The initial track suggests parts of southeastern LA or southern MS or southern AL could be impacted over the next 5 to 7 days. These areas could begin to experience Tropical Storm Force Winds by Thursday evening.
As I mentioned earlier this morning, this system is definitely one to keep our eyes on over the next several days. Any shift in the NHC “Cone of Uncertainty” to the west could impact the ongoing repair and restoration efforts at Jeff Davis Electric Co-op, and potentially cause issues for those systems still trying to recover from both Hurricanes Laura and Sally. - Sid Sperry, OAEC
