Good evening.

Here are the latest forecast updates from the National Hurricane Center (NHC) in Miami, FL, as of 8pm Eastern Time.

A low pressure area about 450 miles off the coast of North Carolina could develop into a Tropical Depression over the next 2 to 3 days. Formation chances over 5 days: 40%.

Meanwhile, a Tropical Wave is forecast to emerge off the west coast of Africa by Thursday. Formation into a Tropical Depression is likely over the next 4 or 5 days. Formation chances are 80% over the next 5 days. Movement is forecast to be due west.

Tropical Storm Paulette has max sustained winds of 65 mph and is moving slowly (only 8 mph) to the northwest. Areas from the Carolinas northward to the New England coastal states should keep an eye on this system over the next 5 to 7 days. It is expected to turn northward, but a weakened high pressure system may allow Paulette to continue tracking to the northwest.

Tropical Storm Rene has max sustained winds of 40 mph and is tracking west-northwest at 16 mph. While Rene is forecast to strengthen into a hurricane, it is expected to turn sharply to the north then northeast over the next 3 to 5 days and pose no threat to the United States. - Sid Sperry, OAEC
