Some satellite views of Hurricane Fiona, now a Category 2 Hurricane with sustained winds of 105 mph. Fiona is expected to become a Category 3 (Major Hurricane) by sometime Tuesday morning, with sustained winds in excess of 110 mph. Still no threat to the U.S. mainland, but will likely threaten the Bahamas and Bermuda over next few days. Fiona dumped over 20” of rain in parts of Puerto Rico. |

NHC’s latest update (5pm EDT) gives a Tropical Wave east of the Windward Islands an 80% chance of further development over the next 5 days. Now one to watch very closely. Hurricane Fiona is now a Category 3 hurricane, the first Major Hurricane in the Atlantic this hurricane season. It is expected to impact the Bahamas, Bermuda, and portions of Atlantic Canada over the next 5 days as it moves north-northeast. |
