An electric cooperative lineman is recovering after being accidentally
jolted on Wednesday morning.

Johnathan Hart, 29, was in stable but critical condition at Shands at the
University of Florida on Thursday evening and is expected to survive,
according to a spokesman for Central Florida Electric Cooperative.

The Levy County Sheriff's Office received a call at about 9 a.m. Wednesday
requesting an ambulance at 30 Winding River Lane in Inglis. Hart and other
cooperative employees were in the area setting a new pole into an existing
line.

Cooperative spokesman Tim Hastings said Hart, a first-class lineman with
more than 10 years of experience, was standing on the ground near a truck
that had become energized. Hart apparently came into contact with the truck
and was jolted with an unknown amount of electricity.

Hastings said Hart's co-workers immediately began CPR and continued until an
ambulance arrived. Hart was taken to the nearest hospital, Seven Rivers in
Crystal River, to await an airlift to Shands.

"We are optimistic about his chances of recovery at this time," Hastings
said. "In the 28 years I have been here (at the cooperative) this is the
first time we have had an incident like this."

Hastings also said that an internal review of the accident was underway.
